Ondokuz Mayıs University Department of Psychology first began admitting students in the 1992-1993 academic year. Graduates who successfully complete all program requirements receive a "Bachelor's Degree in Psychology". The department is accredited by FEDEK (THE ASSOCIATION FOR EVALUATION AND ACCREDITATION OF UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS IN MATHEMATICAL, NATURAL AND SOCIAL SCIENCES) for a period of 5 years, from January 24, 2024 to September 30, 2029. The Psychology department offers a four-year (8-semester) undergraduate program. The department has 2 full-time professors, 2 assistant professors, and 2 lecturers. Additionally, 6 research assistants are currently actively working in the department. Thesis-based master's degree program began in the Fall semester of 2014. Double major students from the Sociology Department are also accepted.

Graduates of the Psychology Department can find employment in various public institutions (Ministry of Health, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of National Education, Social Services, etc.), private educational institutions, psychotechnical evaluation centers, and private sector areas such as industrial organizations. Graduates of the department can continue their careers in the academic field (at the master's and doctoral levels) and continue their scientific studies in the field under the umbrella of the university.
